This after-school workshop for ages 7 to 15 will set you up with fundamental skills and knowledge for successful sewing. Leslie will meet you where you are in your sewing journey, which will vary among students. Leslie will honor your needs while keeping the entire group interested and challenged.
We will use QI Gong to transition from the school day and to be sure to get our bodies and minds focused to put our best effort into each day’s sewing adventure.
In this 5-session class, you will learn/relearn the following:
–Machine basics: Threading, bobbin winding, body ergonomics, and hand placement
–Patterns: How to prepare, read, and use commercial patterns (pattern to be provided)
–Measuring: How to ensure an accurate fit by doing essential measurements for chest, waist, hips, and leg length.
Fabric knowledge: How to select and differentiate between woven, knit, and non-woven fabrics. Learn about grainlines and how to straighten fabric.
Seam Finishes: How to finish seams for a professional look
Hand sewing: Basic hand-sewing stitches
You are welcome to use your own machine provided that it is running in peak condition. We also have machines available to rent.
This class is taught by Leslie Guglielmo. She has been sewing for more than 40 years and is a certified instructor for whom sewing has been a lifelong joy. She delights in setting young sewists up for success and seeing them light up when they complete their own projects.
