Quilting With Deb: 3D Pop Star Pattern

October 8, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

3-D Popstar Quilt

Saturdays, October 8 and October 29, 1:00 to 4:00 pm | $40 per class

These two classes include a free pattern for an eye-popping quilt called 3D PopStar and will focus on careful cutting, sewing half square triangles into stars, and pressing seams that nestle with one another. The class is a good next step for quilters who’ve mastered the quarter inch seam.

In two lessons you will complete a 50″ square lap quilt top with nine blocks and an outer border.

October 8 Class
You will learn to:
-Construct one block at a time
-Accurately cut fat quarters to pattern measurements
-How to organize the pieces that go with each unit
-How to sew seams for smooth points and edges

Deb will demonstrate how to construct each of the four separate units in the star block, one at a time, with you then creating each unit and attaching units as you go along. You will learn tips how to keep your block square and how to press seams for nestling. You will check the accuracy of each unit’s measurement.

Deb will have samples of each unit for you to refer to as you then construct your second block with support.
You will also have your own copy of the pattern with Deb’s notes, reminders, and tips.

October 29 Class
In this class, you will:
-Continue building blocks (total of 9)
-Lean how to problem solve if blocks are ‘a little off’
-Sew blocks together matching and nestling seams to form a strip
-Sew strips matching seams and points
-Place borders and cornerstones

*3D Pop Star Quilt pattern ( I will provide for you)
*9 Fat quarters (3 light, 3 medium, 3 dark values)
*Background fabric (Lightest or white): 1 3/4 yards
*Shadow Fabric and binding: 1 1/2 yards
*Backing 3 1/2 yards

NOTE: For background and shadow try a fabric that reads like a solid but not necessarily solid; it may have a white on white or a dark on dark, for instance.

All your usual quilting supplies:
Rotary mat and rotary cutter w/ fresh blade, large 24 inch rulers, 2.5 inch wide ruler if you have one, measuring tape, good pair of fabric scissors, ecru or light khaki thread (easier to see if you need to resew a seam), extra packet of sewing machine needles, extra bobbins, glass head pins (they don’t melt under iron), a sewing machine with which you are familiar, quarter inch presser foot OR I will show you how to check for quarter inch seam allowances.
