In Japanese, Sashiko means little stab or little pierce. Sashiko was originally invented for warmth and thrifty recycling, and strengthening work clothes and household goods has risen to an art form with its intricate designs made with a simple running stitch.
On this wonderful Leap Year Day, spend the day exploring this most meditative art, beginning with morning stitching and ending the day creating a sweet project to be treasured. Once you know the technique, Sashiko can be used for a myriad of projects.
