Introduction to Fabric Collage Quilting with Deb (four Saturdays, September through November)

September 14, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

$40 – $70
Collage quilt

Four Saturdays | Two full and two half days | $40–70 per session | Beginner | Registration required

This beginner class offers a strong introduction for those who wish to adventure toward more complex projects such as pets or your own photographs. The class will consist of two full-day sessions and two half-day sessions. This schedule will allow new students to have a full day of immersion with Susan Carlson patterns and techniques and prior students to bring an unfinished collage project for support with finishing techniques and machine quilting.

In this four-day workshop, you will create a small unique wall hanging as you learn to play with simple fabric collage techniques. You will choose from several of Susan Carlson’s simple patterns in her book Serendipity Quilts, which will provide a beginning structure to guide your learning.

Four Saturdays, September through November:

September 14: FULL DAY, 10:30 am–4:30 pm, $70 (Bring lunch, we can share all things quilting or eat as we work.)
October 26: HALF DAY, 10:00 am–1:00 pm, $40
November 9: HALF DAY, 1:30–4:30 pm, $40
November 23: FULL DAY, 10:30 am–4:30 pm, $70 (Bring lunch, we can share all things quilting or eat as we work.)

Registration: Please call the shop to register.

Materials you will need to bring to the Fabric Collage Quilting class:

Serendipity Quilts by Susan Carlson (autographed copies purchased at the shop)

— Pins (should you prefer to work vertically using foam board available for use)

— Good fabric scissors (A MUST)

— Tweezers with sharp points found at pharmacy stores; flat ends don’t hold fabric as well (optional)

— 1 yard of 45” muslin, pre-washed and ironed if you have time

— Your stash of scraps and fabrics, separated into values of light, medium, and dark

— Clear ziplock bags to hold scraps

— Bottle of Tacky Glue or Roxanne’s if you prefer

— Graphite pencil #2 (Can be found at art supply shop. Regular writing pencils don’t quite leave a line on fabric that is clearly distinguishable.)

New students, please consult the Knit One Quilt Too website for needed materials and Susan Carlson’s book, which can be purchased at the Knit One Quilt Too shop. I will have the patterns in her book enlarged and ready for you to begin.
