Quilting beyond the basics, with Deb
September 11 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
One event on September 18, 2021 at 1:00 pm
Two Saturdays, September 11 and 18, 1:00 to 3:00 pm | $25 per class
In this class we will move beyond the basics with skills practiced in Nancy Johnson-Srebro’s book Rotary Magic. We’ll use your accurate quarter-inch seam and careful cutting to make beautiful star points using 60-degree diamonds with easy strip piecing. We’ll also be setting in seams and squaring up blocks.
You can create a full-length or shortened version of Nancy’s Dancing Star Table Runner which is displayed at the shop where Deb used bright batik Fall colors.
The first class will focus on strip piecing and accurate seaming to create the diamonds without having to piece tons of little diamonds. The second class will focus on setting in smooth Y seam.
You can find Nancy’s book at Amazon with the pattern and fabric yardage on page 166. Please let the shop know if you need to use one of their sewing machines. Both classes will focus on accuracy. Deb will be available to assist projects to completion as needed.
You will need:
–Rotary Magic book
-quilting ruler with a 60-degree angle printed on it
-extra needles for your machine
12-inch square ruler if you have one
Think about the color scheme you would like to use. If you use a fall color palette, which three or four colors will you choose? Will you be using one color family that includes a light, dark, and medium value. Your lightest value will be the background. Your inner border can match one of the stars or use another color that complements the stars. It takes time to paw through your stash but Deb finds it helps to think about how colorways and values interact with each other.
Please feel free to email Deb Allard with any questions or concerns you may have about the classes. I look forward to working with you.
